Mexipets
Animal Rescue
Welcome!
We are a US-based nonprofit organization concerned about the welfare of cats and dogs in Mexico. We operate primarily in the area of Maravatío, Michoacán, Mexico.
The vast majority of donations to Mexipets go to spay and neuter efforts in rural communities with few resources. We work with a network of local rescuers and grassroots organizations to rescue abandoned, sick and injured animals and promote their adoption in the US.
Since our founding we have:
Spayed and neutered over 2,500 animals in rural Mexico.
Rescued hundreds of dogs and cats and found them loving homes including over 100 sent to Northern California.
Covered the treatment of sick and injured animals who would otherwise be put to sleep due to lack of local funds.
Did you know?
Mexico has the highest street dog population in Latin America with over 70% of all dogs living on the streets.
Spay and neuter is not a common practice and unwanted litters are frequently abandoned on the street.
While there are over 14,000 animal shelters and rescues in the US, Mexico is thought to have closer to 100.
It costs close to a week's wages for someone to spay their dog in rural Mexico.
The US dollar goes so far in Mexico! Just $12 covers the spay of a cat and $17 covers a dog.
